Cuba is Slowly Expanding Its Small Business Economy

In a continuing push to support small businesses in Cuba--a reform that picked up momentum in 2010--would-be startups can now take out loans "for as little as 1,000 pesos, or $41, a third less than the previous minimum," according to the Associated Press. The announcement is part of a move to invigorate local businesses to ease the burden of the nation's public payroll. Some 9 percent of the Cuban populace are self-employed. Restrictions on imported vehicles have also eased since last month.
