I think this all depends on what you are trying to get out of college. If you go to college to learn more then this statement is not true. If you go to college to get a job, then this statement is definitely true.

I wouldn't go as far as staying college is worthless or overrrated - blame it on the curriculum builders then. School - high school, college, and university - should be a mix of class work and field work. As my father would say, most people who don't have a job after graduating probably have the wrong social skills to be taken seriously. I value apprenticeships and fellowships. These short-term intermissions in the regular school year allow you to romanticize your potential, socialize with the industry, and problem-solve based on what you have gained from your interactions with classmates and instructors.

I think a lot of this comes down to how much do you value college? Would you pay 400k for the college education you got? 500k? At what point is college no longer worth it to you?

It also depends on your college and your view on getting a job. Going to a liberal arts school and getting a BA is largely not going to dump you into a clear career or career path, but if gives you a chance to figure out what you're into, to improve your ability to learn, and to meet people that may well point you in some really positive job/career directions.
