Where is the massive love button?! This cool to the moon and back.

    • Len Kendall

      LOVE the enthusiasm! Thanks Jordan.

Really good idea! I have to say I hate the idea of half going to a charity. Not because I hate charities but because the artists I would support are already a kind of charity and I would want the money to go to them otherwise I would be donating directly to the charity. For that reason I probably wont use it til that's changed at least.

  • Eve Reynolds

Len, thank you for clarifying! I'm still applauding the idea, but EVEN LOUDER now!

    • Eve Reynolds

Len, I took a look to see why I thought you were taking half.... at the bottom of the page - http://centup.org/nonprofits.html - it says 1, 2, 3. Under the 3, it says, "Half those cents go to great content, half goes to you."... that's why I thought it was split 50-50. Should this be clarified on that page?

  • Eve Reynolds

I applaud this idea, and will argue with our non-profit to use this tool, but I must say I believe your 50% cut idea is a bit steep. On the face of it, I would say a 10-25% cut would be more in line with getting needed funding to artists and non-profits, and if this idea takes off as it should, the (reduced) cut would not make CentUp appear to be overreaching.

    • Len Kendall

Just to be clear, CentUp is taking a 10% fee. 45% goes to charities, 45% goes to artists. Sorry if that wasn't clear!

Great work to bring all the communities together and offer a direct access to more content creators and encourage users to make donations right away. My only concern is about the "active reminder to give". If it literally means a reminder to give, that might scare users away from making further donations. Look forward to its launching.

    • Len Kendall

Well first of all, I love your avatar.

In terms of the "active reminder" that really just refers to the fact that by having the button near content, people will be reminded to give. Definitely no pop-ups or obtrusive behaviors will be taken by us. We heart minimalism.

      • Cece Chou

Haha I love Bart so much! Now I got it. I thought it might be something like an email weekly reminder. Thanks for the clarification! I will check it out in 17 days.

This just has a much cooler, more intriguing vibe than Flattr. I really hope this one takes off. It would be great for amateur artists (writers, painters, etc) to get monetary feedback on their free work. And some goes to charities! Very cool.

    • Len Kendall

Thanks Carter. We know it's tough to build a two-sided system (need to rally both the community to give, and content creators to use the button) but we're confident our approach is going to get the ecosystem jump-started. The Indiegogo campaign is great start!

This is GREAT! Thank you for sharing. Love the idea. Especially as a Storyteller/Spoken Word Artist who donates much of her work to volunteering and building bridges between through story. Definitely signing up!

Exciting to have you! Link to your stuff? Would love to check it out.

and a tiny bit of my story:
in 2005, I sold my house and most of my possessions to create volunteer project Literacy Outreach Belize. I've donated programs for 33,340 students and trained 800 teachers so far to use their own cultural stories in their schools. I'll be expanding and volunteering in Kenya, Ghana and India starting in June this year!

OMG Kristin, what an amazing TED story. Very touching stories! Thank you for sharing. I can't wait to hear more about what you're doing in Ghana and other countries... best to you!

Thank you Eve! HUGS to you. I first go to Kenya in June, excited and looking forward both to performing in their festival and to volunteering in Nairobi.

How is this different from Flattr?
