I really love this idea! That being said, I am lucky enough to be near the light-rail station in my home town. My power wheelchair allows me to easily get to the grocery store, at almost 10 miles per hour, or on or off my local 'train' downtown or to most locations on the bus, which are also usually very accessible. I would really like to NOT have to ask for rides to other further away events, in which case I am "stuck" in my manual chair; which is far less comfortable, doesn't (easily) offer me the chance to recline/do a "weight shift" and adds to the shoulder issues from transferring and ultimately cuts shorts trips to anywhere outside the "metro area." I would love to have a vehicle that I can take on longer trips; while still 'in my power-chair'. This would need be (for my needs at least), a highway safe vehicle and (should) offer more mileage per charge. A back up battery might help accommodate this, but until these changes are, (and I sincerely hope that better tech. makes this possible (and yet still affordable)) a reality, I'm left with the option of a) purchasing an existing modified van or SUV, or asking for rides (necessarily in my manual chair) to places like the mountains (nearby) or families houses, 125 miles away in the case of my Dad's house. I really hope you make a kajillion dollars, then the financing/ updated technology will allow me to purchase one of these vehicles, who like the owner I can't use in it's current form. When I sell my first book, I will donate a large sum to your cause! Sorry to be wordy but as a writer it's an occupational hazard/curse/gift!
