Can Roof Gardens on City Buses Help Clean the Air?

A landscape designer in Spain is testing a prototype of a rooftop garden for a city bus; plants grow in a lightweight foam and are watered by condensation from the air conditioner on the bus's roof. How much can this actually help clean the air? That's not clear, but if they spread widely across city bus systems, they'd add a lot of green space: in NYC, for example, bus gardens could create 100,000 square meters of new greenery. And they make buses look better, so maybe more people will ride...
