Can Dogs Experience Grief?

Dogs have an innate ability to mimic human gestures and facial cues. It's because we've domesticated them for over 20,000 years. As anthropology professor and director of the Canine Cognition Center at Duke University, Dr. Brian Hare says, dogs can empathize. They can also express compassion. But, can they also grieve? This dog in Iraq slowly and respectfully buried a dead puppy in the sand. If that's not grief, I don't know what is.
