I posted the piece on FB, and immediately received a comment that equated Brazil's social security and stimulus strategy with our US punative social safety net. People in this country are so brainwashed. They can't see that our approach to social services is like throwing pennies to a drowing person. The gesture is, itself, cynical. The pittence will only help the drowing person sink faster. We do not have a strategy for winning the war on social degradation, let alone the war on poverty.
