Can i use something to substitute lemon juice that still works as good?

I wouldn't call this hippie, I actually grew up in the Middle East; from Palestine to be specific, and this method was used from my great grandmothers to our present day :)

I used to go to a woman who did the Alexandria Body Sugaring (pretty much this stuff as mixed here), she would have a good size blob of it that she would rework and reapply, it was not thin enough to apply with a stick, she would just massage it across a manageable tract of leg quickly and pull up also very quickly.. Now the trick may be, as she did it this way, is to apply the paste against the hair growth and pull it off in/with the direction of hair growth. Most typical wax is applied and removed the exact opposite. After a few years she was having some hand pain issues (this is very tough on the hands) so she would make hers a little thinner and apply with a stick and use the cloth strips, worked equally well, just not as fast in terms of time to do the job. Again, even with the thinner wax/sticks, she would apply UP the lower leg against hair growth and pull down to remove.

I used this wax today, but I still ended up applying it with a popsicle stick and pulling it off with old t-shirt strips. I am happy to say, though, that it was still wonderfully effective.

FYI, if you want to save leftover wax for later use, it's best to use a new applicator each time, that way you prevent spreading any infections.
