Bicyclists hit San Francisco to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Critical Mass

Eric Steuer

This week marks the 20th anniversary of Critical Mass, the monthly bicycling event which brings riders together to explore their city on two wheels. Critical Mass began in San Francisco in 1992, and now takes place in more than 300 cities around the world. Hurrah for the Crit Mass! When I lived in SF (circa 1993-2003), I rode my bike as it was -- a moving vehicle, sharing the lanes on Market Street. Critical Mass is a long-honored tradition that part of San Francisco, long before it was deemed "sustainable" or "good for the planet". I rode Critical Mass a couple of times -- and it was always amazing to see so many people turn out. It's hard to believe it's been 20 years!!!! Happy Anniversary Critical Mass SF!
