As the CSA model expands & changes, what do we lose and what do we gain?

Ask a locavore what’s the best way to get their food direct from a farmer, and chances are they’ll say: CSAs. The boxes filled with farm-fresh food, either picked up or delivered straight to your door, have become increasingly popular across the US in the past ten years. Since then, CSA has become a widely used term in both marketing and media. Is it greenwashing? What does the increasing popularity of the term "CSA's" mean for those trying to source fresh, local foods?
