American Runner Earns Silver Medal in Russia and Dedicates It To His Gay Friends

U.S. runner Nick Symmonds became the first athlete to publicly criticize Russia's anti-gay law by dedicating his silver medal--won at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow--to his gay and lesbian friends back home. "Whether you're gay, straight, black, white, we all deserve the same rights. If there's anything I can do to champion the cause and further it, I will, shy of getting arrested." The controversial law has led many to denounce the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia.
