A Teach For America Alumnus Gets Real About a KIPP Charter School

New York City educator Gary Rubinstein, who happens to be a 1991 Teach For America alumnus, visited NYC's KIPP high school because "we always hear that charter schools thrive because they have high quality teachers that they give flexibility to in return for accountability." Although the teachers weren't awful, politicians justify closing public schools by pointing "to a charter school, often a KIPP, which ‘proves’ that all you need are ‘highly effective teachers' and all students will excel."
