A City Block Designed from Scratch to Build Community

A design competition in a Swiss city called for a new housing block, but the architects who won decided to partly ignore the brief and build a mix of apartments, townhouses, and smaller homes—16 different types of homes in all, intended to attract different types of neighbors. Shared courtyards will bring everyone together.

The homes are also designed to be affordable; you can buy a high-quality, mostly finished house and do some of the work yourself, or you can choose from a set of extras.
