    KIND bars arent vegan but homemade bars as other commenters have mentioned, are a lifesaver when it comes to traveling as a vegan. Getting a bit nervous about my upcoming trip to Spain, though. I've heard bacon, eggs, cheese, ham and fish are interpreted as "non-meat" options. Toss in a slight language barrier and I might be in a bit trouble.

    I have been a Vegan for several months now and just made my first trip out-of-state. I could of used this information before I left, but I didn't research like I should have.     6. OR make your own Energy Bars, like I do. With all organic ingredients, they are bigger and cheaper than anything you'll find at a gas station, all for about $1/each. I'm living/traveling in Europe and make these for when I hit the road, leaving them in the freezer til then.
    SO EASY. If anyone wants the recipe, I'll add it.

      Homemade Energy Bars
      2 cups quick cooking oats
      2 cups prepared trail mix, or nuts and dried fruit of your choice*
      ½ tsp salt
      ½ cup brown rice syrup
      ¼ cup agave nectar
      2 T oil
      1 cup peanut butter or other nut butter
      Directions
      In a bowl, combine oats, trail mix and salt. Over medium heat, place brown rice syrup and agave/honey in a saucepan and bring to a low boil for 2-3 minutes. Add in oil and peanut butter butter until it is thoroughly mixed and is an even consistency.
      Stir wet mixture into dry ingredients and combine until evenly mixed. Press firmly into an oiled baking dish. Let cool, then flip out onto a cutting board and cut into bars. Store in tupperware in the freezer or fridge for longest shelf life.
      I doubled the recipe and filled a casserole dish and an 8in square pan.
      *i.e. raisins, cranberries, dried bananas, pepitas, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, cashews
      Version 2: omit agave and brown rice syrup, subbing honey. This works just fine for those who can’t find either of the other ingredients!

      i am gluten free and only use stevia for sweetener since it doesn't make me sleepy. is it possible to make it for gluten free/sugar sensitive? either way, let me know!! xx

        Hi Carlen,

        Thanks for your post, btw. This is GF. How are you with agave and brown rice syrup? They are both low glycemic index and natural. You could swap all the dried fruits for nuts and grains, bringing the sugar way down. That's all I can think of, because the sweeteners serve as binders, so they must be liquid.

      Colonial Africa was 100x more prosperous before the colonies were returned. Look whats happened to Kenya when it went back to rule under the warlords.

      this article interesting because the author acts surprised that outside of her home of Williamsburg, in the heartland, were people cling to GOD and guns, vegan lifestyle or products don't exist. She acts like vegetables and grains don't exist outside of her hipster paradise?

      Pretty mind blowing.

I certainly was not trying to say that I was surprised aboutaccess- (though about the abundance of vegan restaurants in Idaho, yes!) - What my intentions were in this article was to show there is absolutely no excuse not to stick to your health or moral convictions, wherever you are! Sorry your mind was blown!

        I am not as concerned with the ends of colonialism as I am the means. The means of invading and subjugating human beings is morally impermissible always and everywhere. That being said, I was just making a lighthearted simile.
