Since Keurig’s K-Cup coffee system arrived on the market, single-serve coffee makers have exploded in popularity. But with them comes tremendous waste. John Sylvan, the system’s creator, has estimated that a single K-Cup machine can create 10 times more waste than a drip brewer, and he even regrets his invention. Fortunately, more sustainable alternatives have been popping up that allow you to keep using a single-serve system, reduce plastic waste and capture the used coffee grounds for compost.
