    Here's an even easier way: green onions and romaine lettuce will both grow in a glass of water. Set it in a bright window and keep the water fresh and clean - you can grow a few new sprouts from your onions and leaves from your lettuce.

    Expect about 2 weeks of new growth before the flavor starts to disappear completely.
