$250 fine for using the crosswalk wrong - Downtown LA's jaywalking ticket stings are out of control

I recently got one of these tickets for jaywalking, but not in the way you might think.

I wasn't ticketed for running across a stretch of street but for using a crosswalk incorrectly. I think this pedantic enforcement of traffic laws and the outrageously high fees associated with the tickets isn't helpful. This write-up in the New York Times covers the topic well.

      Totally agree with you on this one. I actually got a jaywalking ticket recently on 3rd street in Santa Monica. As the officer was writing up my ticket, I watched a drug deal happen behind his back. Don't you think the police have bigger issues to deal with than penalizing jaywalkers?
