15 Famous Landmarks Zoomed Out To Show Their Surroundings

Agus Echague

This collection of photographs of majestic landmarks show just how important framing, perspective and lighting are to a photograph. All of these photo pairs are of the same object, but the changes in perspective can make them seem more or less grand.
For example, we might think the Taj Mahal is surrounded by pristine gardens because that's how it's always depicted...

I loved the aerial shot of Central Park, magnificent as is Arc de Triomphe. It's fascinating how we can make up stories around an image, and it's happening in a flash too.

Totally! It's like the context changes the story, for better or worse. And ditto, for me the Central Park pic is mesmerising!

Seeing landmarks like Stonehenge and Giza in the middle of nowhere is fascinating. Taj Majal isn't shocking- but a bit sad. Arc de Triomphe is gorgeous.

Little Mermaid and Mona Lisa= hilarious. I heard a podcast about the subjectivity of art and how landmarks like those gain these reputations over time that somehow supersede what they were years previous. Those pics just emphasize that theory.

Yeah... I've never been to most of these places, and the context changed HEAPS my expectations!
"A change of perspective can change a lot." I guess it is true!
