    Santa Monica Mountains are the closest to LA - and I go there a lot, though probably not today. Going to plan a trip to the Channel Islands soon though. Never been there. Love the spirit of this post, and love the National Parks.

      I've never been to the Channel Islands either... would love to sometime! My fave is Joshua Tree...
