It's not always possible, but when you can, take time to truly enjoy your meals. Turn off the television, step away from your computer. Sit. (In a chair—not at your desk or in your car. Or in your bed—seriously, do you really want crumbs in your bed?) Studies have long shown that eating slower is better for the physique. There's also a strong case to be made for its positive effect on your state of mind. Disconnect for a short period and activate your sense of taste. As an exercise, try to savor every bite, whether it's soup and a sandwich, tacos, or ravioli with marinara sauce. Think of it as dining instead of eating and you will enjoy—instead of rushing through—your meal.
