Take the Quiz: How Millennial Are You?

Yasha Wallin

Generations, like people, have personalities, and Millennials — the American teens and twenty-somethings who are making the passage into adulthood at the start of a new millennium — have begun to forge theirs: confident, self-expressive, liberal, upbeat and open to change. They are more ethnically and racially diverse than older adults, less religious, less likely to have served in the military, and on track to become the most educated generation. Take this 14 item quiz to see how "Millennial" you are, on a scale from 0 to 100.

Hi everybody, I'm Scott Keeter from the Pew Research Center and I was part of the team that designed the Millennial quiz. I see that there are questions about how we chose the items that make up the quiz. The short answer is that we conducted a big national survey that consisted of more than 60 questions designed to help us identify the distinctive characteristics and attitudes of the Millennial Generation. We identified the 14 best questions using a statistical analysis (and some judgment) to make up the web quiz. Here's a link to a more detailed explanation:
And note that within that explainer, there is a link to an even wonkier page about the statistics behind the quiz.

Not sure I agree with the way this is measured. What does having a tattoo or piercing do with how Millenial I am? What about questions about how the Millenial generation wants to make a difference?

  • Eleonora Festari

    My millenial score is 79.
Is that bad or good?! :-/

  • pfletch

    28%.....a Boomer. Vive le difference!

  • Sofia Valiente

Strange how watching more than one hour makes you less millennial...

    • pfletch

Yeah, what if it's NOVA or history channel?

  • Danielle Steer

93%...but I'm curious how the political views really inform whether or not we are millennials?

  • Annalee Shelton

98%, much higher than I expected. I was surprised to see that people in my age group rarely watch TV or read newspapers - I think we're a pretty informed group, I'd love to see where we prefer to get our info (in the aggregate).

    • Mia Pokriefka

The newspaper question is too vague. I was like, does Slate Magazine/Twitter count... I think it does...yay for 95% millenial.

      • Annalee Shelton

That was my thought! I haven't read a newspaper in goodness knows how long, but I am absolutely connected to news. I ended up going with "no" since technically I don't. Such a rule-follower.

  • Howie Zink

I am 93% Firmly Planted on Millennial Soil. I was surprised to see how evenly distributed the stats were among age groups.

  • Meghan Neal

    89%. Pretty darn millennial.
