Sign a Letter to the U.N. Secretary-General to Support Universal Education

Half the Sky Movement

On July 12 -- less than a year after she was shot by the Taliban for speaking up for girls' education -- Malala Yousafzai will mark her 16th birthday by delivering the first-ever set of education policy recommendations written for youth, by youth, to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Presently, there are 57 million children who lack access to education. Sign this letter to the Secretary-General to show your support for Malala's fight for universal education.

To be honest, I was a little torn by this one.

I truly believe in what was being said in the petition re: education rights and gender rights. However, the wording of the petition was quite aggressive and emotive without strong data to support it (eg. stats from UN or WHO or...?). Because of that, I'm not sure that it will be particularly palatable by a government office i.e. the Secretary General.

All that being said, it's important enough for me to sign, and it's not like I've never had people misinterpret my good intentions.
