Support Local Businesses This Holiday: Check Out This List

Caterina Fake

December 25, 2013

Shopping locally can be a wonderful way to get in touch with your neighborhood and avoid all the crazy of Black Friday (which we skipped this year, in celebration of Buy Nothing Day!) On Saturday, be sure to celebrate Small Business Saturday, when gift-givers can go to their local, small, mom-and-pop businesses to support them, instead of the big box retailers. There are so many reasons to do this:

A locally owned business returns about 45% of each dollar spent to the community. And the “multiplier effect” is in effect: one dollar spent at a locally owned business returns five times that amount within the community through city taxes, employees’ wages, and materials.

We've put together a list of some of the businesses that we love, and encourage people to add their own favorites, advertise their businesses if they're business owners, and support small businesses during the coming gift-giving season. Come have a look, and add your own favorites!

Great list! Wondering how you found all these great businesses? Seems like you're forming great partnerships at the Findery?

They were mostly added by their fans, sometimes by the owners themselves. It's great to see! You won't find a lot of...Walmart on Findery.
