Did you know that writing with chalk on a public sidewalk is illegal in Los Angeles? Selling clothing manufactured under unsafe conditions isn’t.

This past Wednesday (April 24), more than 386 garment workers in Bangladesh lost their lives after the building housing their factories producing clothes for American and European consumers collapsed upon them.

This is not a single incident.

Only five months ago, 112 garment workers burnt to death in a factory fire in Bangladesh. This led leading multinational brands to pledge to improve safety in the country’s booming but poorly regulated garment industry.

Again, promised actions didn’t bring desired results.

It’s time for real change. Consumers need drive this change and rethink consumption patterns. This will force brands to rethink manufacturing practices.
