Read a Banned Book

Liz Dwyer

It's Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of the freedom to read. "Hundreds of books have been either removed or challenged in schools and libraries in the United States every year. According to the American Library Association (ALA), there were at least 326 in 2011." Exercise your freedom to read by picking up a copy of a book that's currently banned in a school or library—Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" could work—or pick one that's been banned in the past, like Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451."
