This has been on my unofficial to-do list for awhile! I already have the goal of visiting all US National Parks and want to visit plenty of places abroad, from Russia to Istanbul to Rio to New Zealand to more places in Africa (my inaugural trip to Kenya was in 2009 and I want to see so much more). Love seeing everyone's ideas and goals.
A couple of weeks ago, my roommate gave me her Doctors without Borders map and told me go to crazy, and crazy I went. I tagged a little pink post-it to all of the countries I've imagined living and working in. There wasn't necessarily a theme when I started, but after seeing all of the small pink flags sporadically laid out on the map, I realized I love the coastline. At first, I thought it was the combination of the seafood culture, laid back lifestyle, and access to ports that attracted me to these coastline cities like Lima and Cape Town. But in reality, it's their strategic geographic locations that make them leading innovation hubs in design, social entrepreneurship, and environmental practices. I'd love to witness this energy and enthusiasm first-hand!
One thing that I wish I had is a deeper connection to my family history. We are Italian, but aside from eating absurd amounts of pasta and having extremely large (and loud) family gatherings, I don’t have much of a connection with my heritage.
My bucket list trip definitely includes a few stops in Italy to visit and learn about the cities where my family is from. We are southern Italians through and through. On my father’s side we are from Bari and Calitri, and on my mother’s side we are from Naples.
Not exactly sure when I’ll be able to actually do that trip, but never too early to start planning, right?
