Learn about design centered education with the film "If You Build It"

Anne K. Easton

January 24, 2014

“If You Build It” is a documentary that highlights a radically innovative approach to education focusing on hands-on learning through design.

The film followers designer-activists Emily Pilloton and Matthew Miller as they imbed themselves in rural Bertie County, the poorest in North Carolina, with the desire to change the current teaching model for area high school students.

Director Patrick Creadon describes the film as “Extreme Home Makeover” meets “The Breakfast Club,” saying, “You have these kids working to build something that will elevate their community. They’re very real people and what they’re doing really is transformative.”

“If You Build It” will be screened at the Landmark NuArt Theater in Santa Monica, CA January, 24 – 26th with appearances by the filmmakers after every screening.

There will be several other screenings across the country as well. For a schedule of screenings, to view the trailer and to learn more about “If You Build It,” please visit their website.
