Join the LAFD Community Emergency Response Team before the next big earthquake

Today's magnitude 4.7 earthquake in Los Angeles (near Westwood) was a literal wakeup call to many residents in their beds this morning, but it should also be a figurative wakeup call for those who don't have a plan for "the big one" (including new transplants like me). The LAFD is calling for volunteers to get crisis response training in case of a large natural disaster! In the event of a mass disaster, CERT volunteers will be responsible for helping residents, while LAFD concentrates on largescale threats like earthquake damage to chemical facilities.
