Introduce yourself to your neighbors

Do It

The biggest step you can take in improving your community is simply getting to know your neighbors. We make that fun by challenging you to make a short film made entirely on the block that you live on and using only your real neighbors as cast and crew.

A new guy just moved into our building. He parks next to my fiancé. We've been seeing him come in and out over the past month, just standing silently in the elevator. This morning we walked in. We saw him. I found myself blurting "HI!" Turns out he knew who we were through other neighbors and even knew we recently got engaged. Moral of the story - maybe your neighbors already know a thing or two about you. Maybe it's up to you to teach them more and learn a thing or two about them as well. That way it matters less when they park over the line.

My block has now participated in the On My Block Films challenge two years in a row. Even the neighbors who have lived on the block for close to 20 years got to meet new people. We saw the old Italian residents speaking with the younger families moving in. It's changed all of our relationships to our neighborhood and improved our lives in some big ways.
