Health and Work: Get a Standing Desk


There's no shortage of literature and research proclaiming sedentary seated lives as detrimental to our health. Between atrophy, tight hip flexors and hamstrings, back pain and poor posture, sitting around all the time is just stale for those of us looking for inspiration and rejuvenation. Sure, standing in one place isn't the end-all solution, but it can be a start. So stand tall, be productive, and from time to time, take a stroll, stretch that body. Your brain and back will thank you for it!

    I just started working standing up, at least a couple of hours a day. I didn't buy a new standing desk, but I simply made my desk a multifunctional desk by putting a box on it (so that when my laptop is on the box I can work standing up, when I want to sit down I can just remove the box). I also try to stretch every once in a while, and do "walking meetings" whenever possible.

      All great ideas. I wish I had a treadmill desk sometimes, just to up the ante on my cardio- but standing up is definitely the best way to keep your blood flow going- as well as walking. We also tried a take the stairs challenge at GOOD- really fun and everyone got involved. Really great way to bond the office:
