Hack Procrastination: Find the Enjoyable Part of an Activity You Don't Want to Do

Do It

The self-imposed deadline you're giving yourself isn't working because in the back of your mind, there's no real pressure. If you're not finishing something (like taxes or a school paper), it's probably a lack of enjoyment or a fear of failure.

Here's a solution. Fuschia Sirois, of Bishop's University, says you can change that habit: Just find something enjoyable or meaningful about the work you're avoiding.

What are you avoiding? Find what's enjoyable about it. Then...

1) Break down what needs to get done in segments
2) Start with the most enjoyable parts of the project
3) Clear all distractions- change your internet password and cut temptations
4) Reward yourself for getting through parts of a project.
