Do It

Get your community businesses to give to causes

Cathy Caplener

We all know how causes are constantly in the fundraising mode. We are also seeing in our economy how small businesses are getting hit hard during our nation's financial situation. So why don't you show support for your favorite small local businesses by seeing if they would choose a cause, or even let their customers choose a cause to give back to. This will help build community between the customer, the business, and the cause to benefit the world. Imagine if we all did this in our communities and how the model could work for all parties? And you would also connect and build a stronger relationship with your local businesses.

Super interesting, and I agree that some of the best results are meeting up face to face (even though it takes longer and can sometimes be scary for people).

Do you have a handful of different options or ideas that you present to businesses to their wheels spinning on how? Any links to learn more about how you go about this, or the inspiration?

HI Carolyn and I am sorry for just now getting back to you. I am in the early stages of figuring out how to create a real program out of this idea. The main thing I am learning is that each business is so different as are their customers. So it is a cool thing to dig into. I do not have a masters in business but I believe and feel that I am on to something here. Right now I am working with my physical therapist and a coffee house. We are brainstorming on how to use social media first as well as how they talk and build relationships with their customers. I believe we will see olive branches start to grow out of the process. I will keep you posted. We can build tribes in our communities to help causes. We shall! Peace.

Keep me updated! I think this is fantastic, and eager to hear how we can equip local businesses with smart ideas!

What do you think is the best way to reach out to local businesses?

    • Cathy Caplener

Hi Alessandra and thank you for following. Right now I am reaching out to them in person and having what I call heart to heart talks about how they want to improve their relations with the community. I am also going to start a Meet-Up group around this concept. I believe that now more than ever we have to build community tribes that will in turn create leaders. Not all of us are meant to be go door to door and sell such a concept. But this is what I am passionate about and I know I can find business owners, large and small, who will get this concept on all levels. Just got one eatery to plan a monthly event for a cause of their customers' choice. We shall see how this goes.
