Documentary "Soul Food Junkies" explores tradition, health and socioeconomics

Filmmaker Byron Hurt was inspired to create a dialogue about the intersection of black cultural identity, the food industry and how socioeconomics affects health after his father, a former soul food junkie, died of pancreatic cancer at 63. Hurt's resulting 2012 documentary "Soul Food Junkies" is showing on Thursday, February 28 at 6 p.m. in Jesse Wrench Auditorium. The filmmaker, who directed 2006's "Hip Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes," will attend the film and hold a post-film Q & A.
