Do It

Do: Sign this petition demanding banks disclose campaign $$. Double Do: Spread civil disobedience on 9/28

If you don't believe corporations are people. If you are willing to make a fuss about all their secret campaign money. And if you can get some free time on September 28th, join me in demanding banks to disclose dark money. 99Rise is organizing demonstrations in LA and NYC, then across the nation. You can pledge your participation on their site, and even say whether or not you're "willing to get arrested." Of course you are. But you have the option apparently. Double Do it.

hi folks, i'm an organizer with 99Rise, and part of our core strategy is to utilize the tactic of nonviolent civil disobedience to generate media attention and activate more support for the cause of getting money out of politics. From September 28th through the election we will deliver these petitions to institutions that are representative of "the worst of the 1%" and who we suspect are contributing massive amounts of "dark money" to influence this election cycle. We will make a simple demand that they fully disclose all dark monies they've contributed to 501(c)4s. Many of us will refuse to leave until they do. We will sit outside the headquarters of these institutions, dollar bills taped over our mouths representing how our voices are being drowned out by their Big Money, and holding American flags to demonstrate our deep patriotism and love for our country and our communities. We're willing to risk arrest to bring the issue of dark money's influence on our democracy to the fore and generate more support for our movement, so we can continue to escalate until we create the mandate necessary to force our elected officials to support a constitutional amendment to get money out of politics for good.

This could either sound like an aggressive and nonviolent demonstration. They site repeatedly talks about the possibility of getting arrested (which is a nice reminder but could easily give the impression that it's goal). However, 99Rise also says this is to be an nonviolent movement. I would be curious to hear the details after you do this.

Yeah. Unclear on how I'd get arrested. I'm shooting for passionate non-violence...but I'll be sure to take some pictures and video and share them here. On another note: Can you help me design a couple cool signs!? Or maybe you, @Casey? I'm putting together some messaging idears now...

...what would they need to say? @mentions are available yet unfortunately. Stay tuned though.
