Out of all courteous statements, 'You're welcome' seems to time and again slip through the cracks. Very rarely do we forget a 'Thank you', but for some reason, 'You're welcome' is often easily replaced by a casual, 'yeah', 'okay', 'uh-huh'; try as I may to resist, every time I hear one of these acknowledgments in return, I can't help but feel that the person I'm saying thank you to believes me to be disingenuous. I promise, I honestly do appreciate what you've done for me! Unfortunately through, sometimes when I'm in a rush or not paying close attention, I'll even catch myself slipping in a nonchalant 'mhm' without giving it a second thought. So next time someone throws a 'Thank you' in your direction, even through you've already done something that merited a 'Thank you' in the first place, think of a well placed 'You're welcome' as a way of letting them know that you appreciate their reciprocal kind gesture. It's a win-win situation!
