Day 20: Focus On The Positives

March 20, 2013

Today my roommates said that it's easier to pick on the negative aspects of most things. At first I was taken aback... are we really that petty? But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Not from the standpoint of humans being innately negative, but based on the idea that when we feel an emotion more strongly, the more likely we are to be able to recall & pinpoint the moment that we felt it. Take going out for instance. The company is wonderful, the atmosphere great but (& I've had this one happen before) the waiter accidentally spills your drink on you... In the moment, not so fun and, unfortunately... probably the most memorable thing about that dinner. In hindsight though, there's no way that moment was anywhere near the most important thing that happened that night. So even if you need to consciously make an effort at first, when something bad pops up, try thinking about something good that's happened. I can almost guarantee the positives will outweigh the negatives!

I found this awesome app that makes me feel happier when I use it. I has helped me become a more positive person and reminds me of positive things that have happened. The app is called "Happier" and it allows you to share 3 or more happy moments of your day. You can share them for yourself to look at later or you can share them with close friends (it will not share your posts of Facebook, and you no longer need to sign in with your Facebook account) :-)

My friend and I were just talking about the act of complaining this morning and how we would never want to be labeled as negative. This is such a great reminder to think optimistically, forgive and smile everyday. Thank you for sharing torizenko!
