Work With an Indian Village Cooperative to Make Sustainably-Sourced Shoes

Michael Paratore

San Francisco, CA

To make a long story short, I went on my first trip to India in March 2012, discovered a hand-woven leather shoe at a street stall in Mumbai, quit my job as a corporate lawyer in Northern California, flew back to Mumbai and zig-zagged the country by train until I found the source of the shoe (a village cooperative in Northwestern Karnataka). I've since spent the past year going back-and-forth between the Bay Area and India to find the highest quality leather and suppliers.

Now mohinders is live on Kickstarter! And, I'm proud to say that our shoes are made with high-quality, sustainable materials and "sourced right" from 2nd and 3rd generation artisans belonging to an Indian village cooperative.
