While I did not take advantage of the ASPCA program...I was fortunate to have an acquaintance who worked at a local no-kill shelter who matched me up with my current dog. Harley had lived at the shelter for over five years. He was adopted many times and always ended up back at the shelter because he never seemed to "fit" in his new surroundings. He was not a "problem" dog...he did not bite, he did not fight with other pets in the home, he did not terrorize small children or tear into the couch cushions...he just wasn't happy.

When my canine companion of 16 years passed away, Paula approached me with the idea of adopting. I wasn't sure if I was ready but agreed to visit the shelter and meet some of the dogs that had been selected for me. When Harley was ushered, reluctantly, into the waiting room it was love at first sight. I can't explain it, but there was an instant attraction and understanding between the two of us. I adopted him on the spot. Only later did I find out that he had been her first choice for me.

And...yes...from day one, he was the perfect match for me. We have been together for 7 wonderful years. I guess he just needed to find "his" perfect home.

My best to all who take advantage of this admirable service!

It's so great when shelters do that extra work. And, it's wonderful when you meet a dog and just know. The same happened with my dog at an adoption event. I bee-lined towards her without seeing any of the other dogs. It was most definitely a magic connection.
